Abuja – A Rivers-based lawyer, Mr Abdulkareem Dauda, has said that an amendment to the law governing corruption to impose death penalty on convicted corrupt government officials and others was justifiable and desirable. The legal practitioner said death sentence for those found guilty of corruption was justifiable, considering the multiplier effects of corruption, which destroyed every sector of the society. He added that “if an armed robber who kills one or two persons or robbed at gunpoint gets a death sentence, what of a corrupt government official whose action destroys many lives?.’’ He said corruption was a more dangerous offence than armed robbery and should, therefore, attract stiffer punishment in order to deter others. “In my opinion, corruption should attract death penalty. De Gea: Real blame United

Real Madrid have pointed the finger at Manchester United following the collapse of the deal to take David de Gea to the Bernabeu, Skysports reports. De Gea will be staying at United after Real Madrid decided not to appeal to La Liga – and then issued a statement in which they laid out their version of events, blaming United for the breakdown of the move. A £29.5m deal – with Real keeper Keylor Navas moving in the opposite direction – was agreed on Sunday only to founder at the last minute due to an administrative hitch. It initially seemed the deal had simply stalled after documents were received 28 minutes after the Spanish transfer deadline at midnight on Monday. But Skysports consequently learned from Spanish league officials that they did not receive any paperwork from Real over the transfer. United insisted they signed and sent all relevant documentation on time and that they have the evidence to prove it but Real have now released a 10-point statement which seeks to cl...

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney knew nothing of Anthony Martial when the Monaco forward was linked with a move to Old Trafford, according to team-mate Morgan Schneiderlin. Martial has returned to France after completing a medical ahead of his proposed move and Sky sources understand United will pay Monaco an initial £36m for the 19-year-old – making him the most expensive teenager in football history. News of United’s interest broke as the squad were flying back to Manchester after their 2-1 defeat to Swansea on Sunday and the England captain approached Schneiderlin to get the low-down on the potential new recruit. Schneiderlin told the Manchester Evening News, “On the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak. “I told him he’s a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the beginning of this. “I told him he is technical and powerful. A litt...

My Biggest Fear Is Not Making Heaven – Olamide

Image
Olamide told Andre Blaze in a recent interview that his biggest fear is not making heaven. In his words “my major fear is not making Heaven; the second one is failure. Nobody thought it was going to be this big for me…or for someone coming from Bariga, and you’re not even doing like Pop, RnB or something. You’re rapping, like rap doesn’t even really sell like that in Nigeria. And now you’re coming from the ghetto, and you’re not doing English rap. But glory be to God, I did a lot of hard work and it has paid for me. The grace of God has really helped me as well.” On his baby mama, the rapper said “We’re very cool. We’ve been cool from way back and we’ve been together for almost 5 years now. It’s not just some random chic that came around from nowhere. That’s just it. But the question of marrying her, that one is very hard to answer because Olamide is not God. Only God knows tomorrow.”
