A police officer attached to Orile Division died in a motor accident opposite Fatgbems Filling Station, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway at about 9a.m., yesterday. Six people, including two suspected suicide bombers, have died in two bomb explosions that occurred on Tuesday in Damaturu, Yobe State capital. Yobe Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Toyin Gbadegeshin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria. Gbadegeshin said three others were in critical condition, while 40 others, who sustained various degrees of injury, had been taken to hospitals in the area. He said one of the explosions involving a female suicide bomber of about 12 years of age, happened at the entrance of the Damaturu main motor park. “The girl detonated the explosive at the screening centre of the motor park gate, killing herself and four others, including a pregnant woman and a baby. “The other explosive went off at about the same time with the first one at Pompomari, when a suspected male suicide bomber, sensing he will be apprehended, ran into a nearby bush and the explosive went off, killing him alone,” the police spokesman said. Ace comedian, Mr Moses Adejumo popularly called ‘Baba Sala’ has been discharged from the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, after eight days of treatment. The veteran actor’s son, Mr Emmanuel Adejumo, revealed that his father was discharged Monday afternoon around 3.47 p.m. Baba Sala, 80, was rushed to the hospital on August 17 after he complained of discomfort which Emmanuel said was confirmed to be old-age related symptom. “To the glory of God my daddy has been discharged from the hospital today (Monday). “I want to use this opportunity to thank all friends and fans of my daddy for the love, care and concerns. “I actually thank everyone for all their comments and love,” he said. Remarkably, the Chief Medical Director of the UCH, Prof. Temitope Alonge, said the hospital would be responsible for Baba Sala’s hospital bill.

The National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.), has set up an investigative committee on the procurement of hardware and ammunition in the Armed Forces from 2007 till now. This action was taken in obedience to an order by President Muhammadu Buhari that all arms’ procurement deals since 2007 should be investigated. The late President Umar Yar’Adua was in charge from 2007 to 2010 while former President Goodluck Jonathan presided over the affairs of the country between 2010 and 2015. According to a statement on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President directed the NSA to set up the committee with the mandate of identifying irregularities and making recommendations for streamlining the procurement process in the Armed Forces. The Lagos State Government has removed the list of contracts awarded under the administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola. The list which was published on the website of the state’s Public Procurement Agency, www.lagosppa.gov.ng, stated that Fashola’s administration spent N78.3m on his personal website, www.tundefashola.com, in 2014. The list further stated that Fashola spent N139m on the drilling of two boreholes at the Lagos House, Ikeja. However, checks by our correspondent on Monday showed that the section which lists all the contracts awarded under Fashola’s administration between 2013 and 2014 could no longer be accessed. The website of the PPA was inaugurated by Fashola on July 15, 2013. There was disarray during the weekend at Oba Market Benin after a  23-year-old hair dresser named Miss Faith Idehen, had her left ear bitten off by her Landlord’s daughter. According to a report by Vanguard, trouble started when the landlord’s daughter demanded for N1,500, being the monthly payment for electricity bill. The hairdresser pleaded that she did not have up to that amount, but deposited N1,000 with a promise to pay the balance of N500 later in the day. She then left the compound and boarded a commercial bus to her place of work at Oba Market. The Accident Investigation Bureau on Thursday released the official list of passengers and crew members onboard the Bristow Helicopters’ chopper that crashed into a lagoon in Lagos last Wednesday. The official list, often called passengers’ manifest, contained the names of the 10 passengers and two flight crew members that were aboard the ill-fated Sikosky S76 C+ helicopter that crashed in the Oworonsoki area of Lagos on August 12. The AIB had confirmed that the pilot, co-pilot and four passengers died in the unfortunate incident while six passengers survived. The six survivors are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, while the bodies of the six dead victims had been deposited in the mortuary. The names are; Ita Ekpeyong, Joshua Emekeme, Dolu Ebiejuara, Onoriode Onojete, Chukwuma Erise and Solomon Udeh. The Five Star Music label has apologized to the Nigerian public over the Skiibii ‘Death Stunt’ that flooded the media last Friday, August 14, 2015. And at the same time, announced that Soso Soberekon has been fired for misleading the public. Skiibi, with real name, Abbey Elias was presumed dead and someone from his team sent out a photo of  the musician lying on the floor as evidence. Condolence messages from fans and other celebrities flooded social media, only for Skiibii to ‘resurrect’ after a few hours. Soso had confirmed via a phone call that Skiibii was indeed died. He had also put up a black candle post on his Instagram page, insinuating that the young music act was confirmed dead. Skibii also spoke at length on the picture that went round when he collapsed.

It was a shameful sight yesterday, August 18, when two officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) took off their uniforms and engaged a commercial bus driver in fisticuffs. According to The Nation report, the incident occurred at Anthony bus stop near Oshodi, Lagos, following the arrest of the driver for plying the BRT lane. Recounting what happened, an eyewitness said one of the LASTMA officials smashed the windscreen of the TATA bus owned by the Ogo Oluwa Motors with his telecom’s device, after the driver of the bus refused to alight and hand over the keys. Infuriated by this action, the driver and his conductor alighted and engaged in a free for all fight with the officials. Motorists, commuters and passersby watched in astonishment as the men tried to stab one another with the broken windscreen glasses. The family of the octogenarian, say he’s improving. The family source said: “He has come back to his normal life style. He is cracking jokes with the doctors now and may need to rest for few days before he is discharged. Its not something so serious. Its just normal old age sickness. A Lagos lawmaker, Honourable Jude Emeka Idimogu, has tackled the federal government for proposing to increase Value Added Tax (VAT) on imported and locally-produced goods from 5 to 10% . Honourable Jude Emeka Idimogu Idimogu, a representative of Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, asked the government to justify what it had spent previous taxes it collected over the years on before proposing an increase. Over 60 persons have been killed by Boko Haram fighters in Kukuwa – Gari in Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State. Speaking to our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday, the spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, Mr. Toyin Gbadegesin, confirmed the attack. But he did not give the casualty figure. He said, “I can confirm that there was an attack at Kukuwa village and the police and other security operatives were able to repel the Boko Haram attackers. We are not aware of the high death toll.” But a member of the local vigilance group, Abubakar Aliyu, told our correspondent that over 60 people lost their lives in the attack. He said most of the victims were shot dead by the sect fighters, while some drowned in a river while they were fleeing from their attackers. Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw opened up to City People Magazine in a recent interview on how she lost everything to the fire incident that occurred in her home few months ago.
